Naggar is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The Naggar Castle constructed by Raja Bhosal has now been transformed into a Heritage hotel after slight reformations. From Naggar Palace, Tourists can get an all-encompassing view of either side of Kullu Valley. The popular Jagatipati Temple is located inside Naggar Palace. This temple houses the sacred stone slab which confers credence and saves the local individuals from all sorts of ill effects.

Location 

Kohinoor is situated on a street corner and we could see the board from afar. It is a few meters from the beautiful Naggar Castle and a stone’s throw from the antique Tripura Sundari Temple. If we go left from Kohinoor, we arrive at the cool café cum art zone of Naggar.

If we take the right, we walk through beautiful apple orchards into lush natural beauty. Yet, there is never a gloomy moment! In fact, provided the strategic location, the Roerich Museum has fitted a carved piece of art by the celebrated Russian sculptor George Protosky at the threshold of Kohinoor Resort.

Climatic Conditions

Summer (April to July): The summer season begins in the month of April and lasts till the month of July. The supreme and minimum temperatures witnessed in Naggar are 20˚ C and 5˚ C respectively. This season is concerned as peak tourist time for its relaxed temperature. 

Monsoon (August to September): Precisely the town of Naggar does not have a monsoon season as it accepts only reasonable rainfall from the month of August to September. This period is also a favorable time to visit Naggar. 

Winter (October to January): The winter season in Naggar begins in the month of October and lasts till January. The highest and lowest temperatures experienced here are 15˚ C and 0˚ C correspondingly.

Naggar Castle

The Naggar Castle is a royal primitive castle turned into a museum cum heritage hotel. It was constructed by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu in nearly 1460 AD and accepts testimony to Naggar’s rich cultural history. Located in the Patlikuhal area of Naggar, the castle is a stone and wood structure that functions as a great vantage point to view the enchanting Kully valley. The complex wooden carvings in the interiors of the castle reflect the attractiveness of Himalayan architecture.

German Bakery

A trip to Naggar is unfinished without visiting the German Bakery. It is the best place in Naggar to sit, freeze, and enjoy some delightful food and drinks while celebrating awe-inspiring views of the mountains. The minimalistic artsy design adds to the appeal of the cafe.

Located near Naggar Castle, the German Bakery is hosted by two pleasant individuals- Yogesh and Ujjwal. The cafe has an open balcony seating arrangement that adds to the calm vibe of the place. The place carried you with both: dine-in and takeaway services. Roerich Art Gallery

Visit the residence of a world-celebrated Russian painter, now transformed into a state museum, the Roerich Art Gallery. Nicholas Roerich was a philosopher who was so enamored by the Himalayas that he made Kullu his beautiful home and shaped hundreds of paintings of the mountains. The gallery also has paintings by his sons and testimonials from travelers such as Albert Einstein and Jawarharlal Nehru.

One cannot arrive at the home of Nicholas Roerich, but one can walk around it and peek into the different windows to get a glimpse into his spotlessly kept home, complete with paintings, knick-knacks, and brushes.

Jana Waterfall

A 38 km drive from Kasheri village will have you arrive at the Jana waterfall. To get to the site of the genuine waterfall, you’ll have to walk up a rocky path enclosed by pine trees. The path, which begins from the parking lot nearby the Jana restaurant, takes 15 minutes to finish. When you arrive at the Jana waterfall, you’ll see an individual stream of water flowing over different levels of rocks, surrounded by attractive green foliage.

How to Reach Naggar? 

  • By Flight: The nearest airport is Kullu-Manali Airport at Bhuntar, from here one can take a taxi or a cab to arrive at the destination. 
  • By Train: The closest railway station is situated at Joginder Nagar. One can conveniently reach Naggar by first arriving at Manali and then renting a cab or taxi from there. 
  • By Bus: Travelling by bus is the best choice to arrive at Naggar. Different HRTC or private bus services function in the region to arrive at Manali. Manali and Naggar are barely 21 km away from each other. One can hire a taxi to refuge the rest of the distance.
  • By Road: Taxi and cab services from Manali are accessible to arrive at the destination.

Food and Accommodation

The cuisine in Naggar isn’t precisely elaborate and your choices can get a bit restricted. You would find small eating joints here helping Himachali and North Indian cuisine. For more variability, one can travel to the more prevalent towns closest. Himachali cuisine is very simple in structure but does have some exclusive delicacies, that are almost unique to the state. A staple meal will comprise Chapati, dals, vegetable gravy, and curd. Additionally, for accommodation, there are several hotels with a panoramic view of the scenic Tosh.
