Explore The Coconut City Pollachi Top Spots To Visit 2023!

Pollachi is a town in the western ghats range located in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. It is about 45 km to the south of Coimbatore and is famous for Jaggery, cattle, and vegetables.

Pollachi is blessed with nature’s beauty and has gardens, green tall trees, and mountains. Pollachi city has been a location for many films as it represents nature’s beauty in a splendid manner. Pollachi in the past has been noticed for coconuts, cash crops, and a major market in the country. Below we have mentioned a few, of the best places to visit in Pollachi.

The Palghat gap influences the rainfall from the southwestern monsoon while the Aliyar river is just 10 km away from the town.  Further, the cultural significance and Anaimali hills influence tourists to visit the place.

Best Places To Visit In Pollachi

Monkey Falls  

Monkey falls is nature’s scenic beauty that is situated on the Pollachi-valpari road.  It is around 30 km from Pollachi in the Anaimali hills. Further, the waterfalls are surrounded by dense green forests and rocky cliffs. This is one of the best places to visit in Pollachi.

Tourists have the adventure of trekking through the rocky and dense forests to reach Monkey falls.  The distance from Coimbatore to this place is around 65 km.

In order to enjoy the falls tourists are recommended to arrive in the morning. It is a place that is suited for adventure, nature sceneries, and photography.   

Thirumoorthy Hills

Thirumoorthy hills are located in the Anaimali ranges of the western ghats. Thirumoorty refers to the three idols of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The temple is located at the base of the Thirumoorty hills just adjacent to the dam.

The Anaimalai hills are surrounded by water from the dam and are a pleasant sight. Further, this area is known for shooting as nature’s beauty is mesmerizing. The attractions include boating, swimming, and a visit to the panchalingam falls. Thirumoorthy hill is also one of the best places to visit in Pollachi.

On the other hand, yoga sessions are also conducted at the Thirumoorthy hills by the universal peace foundation, which is a place to relax and get along with nature.    

Topslip, Pollachi

Topslip is located at an altitude of 240m and is the renowned tourist spot of the Anamalai tiger reserve. It is separated from the Nilgiri hills and the Palghat gap and has a lush green mountain that is surrounded by the jungle.

The place has a variety of flora and fauna and is a popular location for movies. Further, there are wild animals, Bamboo forests, and teak forests, and is a part of the Indira Gandhi wildlife sanctuary.

The tiger reserve is an elite place to spend the weekend and houses rare and endangered species. There is an elephant camp named kozhikamuthi which has a collection of kumki elephants. 

Sulakkal Mariamman Temple

The Sulakkal mariamman temple is situated in the sulakkal village around 15 km from Pollachi. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Ambika and the deity is Swayambu Murthy.  Further, the temple is a cultural representation in the region, and families from Zaminkaliyapuram and Sulakkal villages are known to be taking care of this temple.

The important festival that is celebrated is the chithirai in the month of May. Moreover, the devotees come to take the blessing of Mother Sulakkai known to cure vision problems and aid people who do not have children. It is one of the sacred temples and a must-visit place while at Pollachi.    

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

The Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is situated in a rain shadow area on the eastern slope of the Western Ghats. This makes it a unique location that gets negligible rainfall annually. It is a part of the Idukki district of Kerala and is home to the endangered Giant Grizzled squirrels.

Aliyar Dam

Aliyar dam is located at 918 feet above sea level and is 65 km away from Coimbatore and 25 km from Pollachi. It is regarded as the best picnic spot on the foothills of Valparai. Nature’s scenic view makes it popular among tourists Further, it has parks, aquariums, gardens, and theme parks that stand with mountains and forests all around.

The Aliyar dam is 81 meters high and was used for irrigation purposes. However, in 2002 a project was commenced to utilize the waters of the Parambikulam, Aliyar, Sholiyar, Thunakadavu, Thekkady, and palar rivers for irrigation and power generation.

It is a project that mastered the engineering skill of all times. In addition, this place is an ideal break from stressed city life.  

Sri Subramania Swami Temple

This temple is at a distance of around just 1 km from the Pollachi junction. It is built around the 12th century during the Kongu Sundara Pandian and kongu Tribhuvana Chola regime.

The temple was constructed to honor lord shiva in ancient times around 700 years ago. Later it came to be called subramanyar kovil and Lord subramnayar is the deity. It is highly suited for meditation experience and to achieve calmness.

In addition, Lord Murga in the sanctum sanctorum blesses the devotees with one face and four hands. The temple is renowned for its stunning architecture as well.   

Masani Amman Temple

Masani Amman temple is located in the panchayat town around 24 km from southwesterly to Pollachi. Masani Amman is also known as Masani Devi in north India and the temple is at Anaimalai, Pollachi, Tamil Nadu.

The temple has a large idol of Goddess Masani around 15 feet long. Further, devotees seek blessings for good health and family life. Other deities include Neethi kal and Mahamuniappa. Arivu Thirukovil

Arivu Thirukovil temple is located on the base of the hills of Anamamly just 2 km from the Aliyar dam. The temple has a great reputation and is known as the Temple of consciousness. It is founded by Yogiraj vethathiri maharishi and is an apt place for spirituality and meditation.

Best Time To Visit Pollachi 

The best time to visit Pollachi is in the winter months of December to February. With the onset of the monsoons adventure and other activities may not be possible. Further, the temperature ranges from around 28 to 35 degrees Celsius in the summer and is pretty hot. The monsoon sets in from June to October and for nature lovers, this is the time that provides relief from the heat. However, the winter months have a temperature of around 16 to 22 degrees Celsius and this is the best and peak time to visit Pollachi. 

How To Reach Pollachi 

By Train: Pollachi is well connected by rail network and regular trains ply on this route. The Coimbatore railway station provides connectivity to major cities in India.

Tourists visiting Pollachi can alight at Coimbatore and the distance to Pollachi is around 40 km from Coimbatore.    

By Road: The road connectivity to Pollachi is well maintained and the distance from Coimbatore is around 44 km.

Connectivity from other key places are 59 km from Dharapuram. 65 km from Tiruppur and 68 km from Koduvai. Regular public transport buses and private buses ply on this route. 

By Air: The nearest airport is Coimbatore at a distance of about 50km. It is roughly around 40 minute drive from Pollachi.

Moreover, the Coimbatore airport is connected to various places throughout India such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore including overseas destinations such as Bangkok and Singapore.

Pollachi is a town located in the south with its taluk headquarters in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. It is famous for film shooting as there is lush greenery and scenic views connecting with nature.

Further, there is a wildlife sanctuary, the largest marketplace, and historically significant temples.  Tourists from all over the world visit Pollachi to enjoy nature, meditate, relax, and refresh. It is best when visited during the winter months, but to enjoy the non-adventurous activities the monsoon season is ideal.
