Soochipara Falls: A Guide To Kerala's Amazing Waterfall!

Soochipara Falls is one of the major tourist spots you can visit while travelling to the southern side of the territory of India. This particular waterfall belongs to the state of Kerala in its northern district of Wayanad. There are a total of three tiers for this waterfall.

Since it is surrounded by thick and dense forests, nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers can also enjoy the visit to the waterfalls to the max. When the name of the waterfalls gets translated into English, it gets the meaning “needle rock”.

While travelling to this particular waterfall in the district of Wayanad in the state of Kerala, you would be able to see a lot of tea estates which are part of the economy of the region. These tea estates also do have a rich history of colonial days.

You can also get the chance to taste and mark the quality of authentic tea leaves and hot brews by visiting these places. Apart from all these, adventure lovers are another category of visitors found mostly in this region.

Rock climbing and trekking can also be practised in the surroundings of the waterfall attracting more tourists to visit the waterfall. There are also a couple of viewpoints in the region of the waterfall to make your visit much more mesmerising and memorable. The water of this fall is seen finally reaching one of the major rivers in the northern side of the territory of Kerala, the Chaliyar. 

Location 

The location of this waterfall is noteworthy since it is located in one of the major hill station districts in the territory of Kerala. Since the district of Wayanad is visited by most of the tourists visiting the state of Kerala, Soochipara Waterfalls can be included easily in their itinerary.

Meppadi is the nearest town you can reach from the destination of this particular waterfall. You can get into the location with just a drive of around 15-20 minutes. The exact geographical location of the waterfall comes in a place called Vellarimala nearby the town of Meppadi.

Soon after the motorable road ends, you may need to walk some distance to reach the waterfall location.

This may take you a duration of around 10-15 minutes. Walking this distance can be quite exciting since you would be able to spot a lot of different varieties of species on the way. You would also be able to enjoy the wilderness and its mystic beauty throughout. 

Climatic Conditions 

Since the waterfalls are located in the hill station location of Wayanad, throughout the year the climate is seen as quite pleasant and cool. Summers are not felt in their extremes in the region of the waterfall. Winters are also not so dry and cold here since a particular level of humidity is always maintained naturally in the location.

The climatic conditions become a bit troublesome and dangerous only during the monsoon months since the areas are quite prone to natural calamities such as landslides and floods during this season.

However, visiting this place during the beginning lap of monsoon would be a good idea since the rich flow of water can make the waterfalls look grand and royal in every way possible.

Things To Do At Soochipara Falls

Trekking 

Trekking is one of the most important things to do while you are visiting Soochipara Waterfalls in the district of Wayanad. This can be tried by everyone regardless of age since this particular trek falls into the easy category in the difficulty levels.

Apart from that a lot of monkeys can also be spotted in the trekking trail which will add more fun to the activity. 

Rock Climbing 

Rock climbing is one appropriate activity for adventure enthusiasts visiting the place. You need to be physically and mentally fit to indulge in this sporty activity. Once you reach the top of the rock, a lot of scenic and breathtaking views would definitely steal your heart.

This is an activity that can be enjoyed by almost everyone visiting the location of the waterfall. The water in the pool situated at the base of the waterfall has got chilling temperature and it is clear and clean most of the time.

Attractions Near Soochipara Falls

Chembra Peak 

This is the highest mountain peak in the district of Wayanad. There is also a heart-shaped lake nearby the peak. If you are looking for an intensive trek nearby the waterfall, go for it.

Varambetta Mosque 

This is one of the pilgrim destinations for Muslims nearby the location of the waterfall. It is worth visiting on account of its ancientness and heritage. According to the records, the mosque is around 300 years old.

Kanthanpara Waterfalls 

Another waterfall nearby, for those waterfalls lovers. It would also be a great destination to enjoy family picnics. The scenic visuals around are also noteworthy.

Vaduvanchal 

This is a picturesque hill station town on the Ooty road. You can visit the tea, coffee and rubber plantations found there. Beautiful sunrises are also a peculiarity of the town. 

Ananthanatha Swami Temple 

This is a Jain pilgrim destination nearby. Puliyarmala is the exact location of the same. The main deity is the 14th Tirthankara.

Neelimala Viewpoint 

This is a breathtaking viewpoint to visit if you are visiting Soochipara Falls. You can board jeeps to take you to the viewpoint. It would only cost around 500 INR for a group of 6-7 people.

Things To Remember While Visiting Soochipara Falls

Make sure you carry your own food while travelling to the location but not littering the place. Also, be cautious of slippery surfaces while trekking and also taking a bath in the base pool.
