Esha Gupta: Miss India International To Bollywood Actress!

Esha Gupta is an Indian fashion model turned film actress who primarily works in Hindi movies. A former Miss India International title winner, Esha made her acting debut with the 2012 movie Jannat 2.

Later, she went on to act in several hit films such as Raaz 3D, Rustom, and Baadshaho. Apart from movies, Esha has also been part of television serials, web series, and music videos.

At the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival held in May 2023, the actress walked the red carpet for the first time. Esha is quite popular on social media platforms with a massive 14 million followers on Instagram.

Esha Gupta Family

Esha was born on 28th November 1985 and she spent most of her childhood days in Dehradun, Hyderabad, and Delhi.

The actress’s father is a retired Air Force wing commander and her mother is a housewife. Esha also has an elder sister Neha, who works as a fashion designer.

Relationship

Esha met Manuel Campos Guallar, a Spaniard for the first time in Rome. Manuel is into real estate and his firm once got in touch with the actress for a work-related matter. It finally culminated in the couple meeting each other.

According to the actress,  it was love at first sight and since then both of them have been in a relationship. Recently Esha, on Instagram shared photographs of the couple posing together at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Esha Gupta is a graduate of Mass Communication from the School of Communication, Manipal University.

Later, she got a scholarship to study law at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. However, Esha could not complete her law studies due to personal reasons.

Controversies

In January 2019, It stirred controversy when Esha made racial remarks against Alexander Iwobi, the Nigerian footballer. The actress, on her Instagram story, had shared the screenshots of a Whatsapp conversation where her friend termed the footballer ‘a Gorilla’.

The friend even mentioned that evolution stopped for him and Iwobi did not grow from Neanderthal to man. Responding to her friend’s conversation, Esha typed “ “Haha… I don’t know why they don’t bench him more.”

Subsequently, Esha realized her mistake and removed the screenshot of the controversial conversation. However, by that time the chat had gone viral and the actress had to face public outrage on social media. Later, Esha tweeted her apology stating that being a sports lover, was bad on her part, and pleaded to forgive her stupidity.

Once Esha posted her topless picture on Instagram where she was seen taking a sunbath. However, it didn’t go down well with the netizens and the actress faced sharp criticism and trolls on social media.

Subsequently, Esha lashed out at the trollers by questioning the mentality of people who do not ask male actors to cover up when they post shirtless pictures and mentioned that it is only women who bear the brunt.

The actress also gave a befitting reply to the trollers by saying that she is strong and if someone slaps her, she is going to slap them twice.

At the age of 19, Esha Gupta contested in the 2007 Femina Miss India pageant. Apart from winning third place, she was also declared ‘Miss Photogenic’ at the event. Subsequently, she represented India at the Miss International pageant and emerged as the title winner.  In 2010, Esha got featured in the Kingfisher calendar.

Later, in 2012, Esha she made her acting debut in films with Jannat 2, where she was cast opposite Emraan Hashmi. For her first movie, the actress received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Female Debut.

Esha’s next project was Chakravyuh and she received wide appreciation for her performance. However, Humshakals, the 2014 movie directed by Sajid Khan flopped at the box office and it was a major setback for Esha.

Later the actress went on to act in several films such as Rustom, Commando 2, and Baadshaho. On television, Esha appeared as a host in NAT GEO Super Cars and as herself in the serial C.I.D. Esha has also acted in web series such as REJCTX, Nakaab, and Aashram and in the music videos Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon, Get Dirty, and Booha.

Lesser Known Facts About Esha Gupta

• When Esha got the opportunity to study abroad, her father was not financially sound enough to afford her college fees. Thus, the actress took up the job of picking up tables at Mcdonald’s so that she could pay the tuition fees on her own.

• After contesting in the Miss India pageant, Esha did her first modeling job. She was paid a measly 1500 bucks and the actress says that people behaved as if they were doing her a favor.

• During the time Esha was doing her law studies at Newcastle University, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Though there was only one semester left, Esha took the decision to leave the course and come back to India to take care of her mom.

• The actress has Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and when she was a child, her parents even took her to a doctor as they had no idea what OCD was. 

• Esha has been practicing yoga for the last 8 years. Her father started doing yoga when was 10 years as his father was a yoga instructor.

• The actress is quite superstitious. She always carries a tiger’s eye along with her as she is safety conscious.
