Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary

Declared as a Tiger Reserve by the Government of India in 2012, here you will find various species of animals such as cheetah, sambar, nilgai, barking deer, Indian bison, sloth bear, panther, and tiger.

When it comes to reptiles, the wildlife sanctuary is second to none with different species such as crocodiles, pythons, monitor lizards, star tortoises, and cobras. Last but not the least, there is a 2-hour jungle safari that starts at 6.30 A.M, 9.30 A.M & 3.30 P.M.

Kuntala Falls

Located 12 km from the Neredikonda village, the beauty of Kuntala waterfalls just cannot be described in words. The highest waterfall in the state, the Kadem river cascades 45 meters down and flows into the jungle. Plan a visit to this place during the winter months to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall in its fullest form.

One more aspect that deserves a special mention is the Someshwara Swami, an image of Lord Shiva located near the falls. It is a spot visited by many devotees during the Maha Shiva Ratri festivities.

Gayatri Waterfalls

An untapped tourist destination, the Gayatri waterfalls situated on the Kadam river will undoubtedly captivate you due to its beauty. Located around 5 Km from Tarnam Khurd village near Neradigonda, it offers a visual treat with the waterfall gushing down from a height of 100ft into the valley.

To reach the Gayatri waterfalls, you have to walk 5 km from the Tarnam village. Make sure you take a villager with you to guide you towards the spot as there are chances that you might get lost in the dense forest otherwise.

Jainath Temple

If you are quite excited about exploring temples, then you just cannot afford to miss visiting the Jainath temple. An abode of Lord Lakshmi Narayana Swamy, the features of this temple apparently resembles the Jain style of temple architecture. It is believed that the Pallava chief constructed this temple and the Prakrit stone inscription depicting the 20 slokas stands as a proof.

The best time to visit here is the months of October and November as the Laxmi Narayana Swami Brahmotsavalu will be held from Karthika Sudda Astarni to Bahula Sapatami that attracts devotees from various parts of the country.

Jainath Temple

Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary

The highlight of Shivaram wildlife sanctuary is the freshwater crocodiles, also known as the name mugger crocodiles. Unlike saltwater crocodiles, they can crawl for a long distance on land. Apart from that, you can explore a wide variety of animals such as sloth bear, nilgai, panther, langur, rhesus monkey, cheetah, etc.

The sanctuary is approximately 10 Km from Manthani and 50 Km from Mancherial town in Telangana. Plan a visit during the winter as it is the best time to visit this sanctuary.

Kadam dam

A major water source that irrigates around 25000 hectares in the Adilabad district, Kadam dam is situated at the confluence of the Kadam river into Godavari. Opened in 1958, the dam is 31 meters in height and 2051 meters in length.

During the monsoon season, with the gates opening, this place offers a splendid view for its visitors as the dam will be filled with rainwater. A beautiful tourist spot, you can also enjoy boating, bird watching, and fishing here. Nearby to the dam, there is a park also where you can spend quality time with your family and loved ones.

Pochera Falls

The deepest waterfall in Telangana, Pochera waterfall is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the state. Here, the water falls from a height of around 20 meters and during the time of heavy rainfall, the beauty of the falls is beyond words.

This place is also famous for its scenic beauty as the lush green forest surrounding the waterfall is home to several species of birds and reptiles. There are two options for travel to Pochera falls- one is via Nirmal which is around 36 Km away and the other one is via Adilabad which is at a distance of nearly 55 km.

Located on the banks of River Godavari, Basara is a census town that is part of the Nirmal district. This place is flocked by devotees to visit the Sri Gnana Saraswathi Temple, one of the two temples dedicated to Lord Saraswati in India, the other being Sharada Peeth.

Since Lord Saraswati is considered the Hindu Goddess of knowledge and learning, devotees bring their children to this temple for the learning ceremony, popularly known as Akshara abyasam. Basara is located at a distance of 70 km from Nirmal, the district headquarters, and 205 km from Hyderabad.

Kanakai Waterfalls

Kanakai waterfalls, also known by the name Kanakadurga waterfalls is a natural wonders that you just cannot afford to miss. Located in Girnoor, a small village of the Bazarhatnoor Mandal, Kanakai waterfalls offer a breathtaking view of the huge volumes of water gushing from the rocks. To add on, the picturesque view of the trees surrounding the area will leave you mesmerized for sure.

Sahasrakund Waterfalls

The beauty of Sahasrakund waterfalls lies in its rock pattern that resembles black metal. Located on the Painganga River of Nanded district, Maharashtra, the waterfall is located at a distance of 50 km from Nirmal and 100 km from Adilabad.

Apart from enjoying the spectacular beauty of the waterfalls, you can also visit the three famous temples in the vicinity. They are Panchamukhi Mahadev Temple, Ram temple, and Banganga Mahadev Temple. The best time to visit Sahasrakund waterfalls is during the rainy season.

Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary

Spread across a vast area of 136 sq. km, Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary is surrounded by lush, dark teak forests. Located on the banks of the Pranahita river, the sanctuary is approximately 35 km away from Mancherial town.

Here, the major attraction is the various species of animals ranging from leopards, rhesus, tigers, langurs, sloth bears, wild dogs, and forest cats. The other attractions include the rich fauna such as dalbergia paniculata, pterocarpus marsupium, ficus spp, dalbergia sissoo etc. Plan a visit to this sanctuary sometime between October to March.

Best time to visit Adilabad

Adilabad is a place that experiences tropical climatic conditions. Stay away from visiting Adilabad during summer as the weather will be pretty hot and humid. During the monsoon, there will be moderate rainfall that helps fill dams and reservoirs with water.

The best time to visit Adilabad is between November and March as the weather will be mildly cold and you can enjoy the scenic beauty of this place to its fullest.

How to reach Adilabad

By flight – If you are planning to fly to Adilabad, please note that there are no regular flights to this place from other major cities of India. The nearest airport is the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur which is located 166 km away.

By train – The nearest railhead from Adilabad is Chandrapur, at a distance of 86 Km. As in the case of flights, there are no regular train services to Adilabad from other major Indian cities. 

By bus –  If you prefer bus travel, then the best option is to board the bus from Hyderabad. From Hyderabad, it takes approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes to travel to Adilabad.
