Pathaan Stars Aamir Khan’s Sister Nikhat Khan Hegde As Shah Rukh Khan’s Foster Mother
Shah Rukh Khan has finally made his Bollywood comeback after a hiatus of over 4 years with the much-anticipated movie Pathaan which hit the screens on the 25th of this month.
The movie was known to have its star-studded ensemble with Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Ashutosh Rana, and Dimple Kapadia, but fans were much more excited about Nikhat Khan Hegde’s (Amir Khan’s sister) unexpected appearance on the screen.
Nikhat plays the role of Shah Rukh Khans’ foster mom in the movie and she reshared through her Instagram stories the reactions of some of her fans who were taken aback by her appearance and tagged her in stills from the movie as stories from their Instagram accounts.
With Salman Khan making his cameo appearance, which was already announced ahead of the release, fans were surprised and theorized an Amir Khan representation with Nikhat Khan playing the Afghan woman. The close resemblance of Amir Khan in the same movie along with SRK and Salman made fans think about how narrowly Bollywood’s three Khans appeared together on film.
Nevertheless, movies goers enjoyed Nikhat Khan’s performance and appreciated her through their social media posts, some of which were reshared by Nikhat herself from her account.
NiKhat Khan used to be an occasional producer of several Bollywood movies with Tum Mere Ho (1990), Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Madhosh (1994), and Lagaan (2001), being some of her associated works.
She made her acting debut on the big screen with Mission Mangal (2019), and her TV debut with the Star Plus show Banni Chow Home Delivery.
The movie Pathaan, which was released on the 25th in three regional languages – Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, has registered a record opening of Rs 57 crore from across the whole nation. Around 55 crores of the total collection were from the Hindi shows while the rest was collected from the other two language shows.
The new record bypasses the Hindi collections of ‘K.G.F.: Chapter Two’, which aggregated Rs 53.95 crore, and the 2019 dual-hero film ‘War’ which made a box office collection of 51.6 crores.
As it stands, all of the top three Hindi movies in terms of box office opening collection, (Pathaan, KGF Chapter Two, and War) belong to the same production house – Yash Raj Films.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, and Written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala, Pathaan is part of the YRF’s spy universe films which includes Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), and War (2019).
Albeit the movie Pathaan faced heavy backlash from extremist groups after its release of the “Besharam Rang” song on Youtube ahead of the release, it seems to be unaffected or rather helped by the controversy generated including the trending of “BoycotBollywood” hashtag for a few weeks on Twitter.
Pathaan has reportedly collected over Rs 100 crore worldwide, which is hardly surprising given the huge fan following of SRK among NRIs.
