Shah Rukh Khan Speaks Out About The Campaign To Boycott Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan, a living enigma of Bollywood always comes with a bang-out movie. His last movie was in 2018; Zero and since then the actor hasn’t arrived on the silver screen. But recently, the entire nation got acquainted with his upcoming movie Pathaan and the posters have already made us impatient. We can’t seem to hold our excitement.

Recently the first song of Pathaan was released – Besharam Rang and it has garnered a lot of attention. While some netizens have welcomed the song with fire, others have shown a lot of discontent towards it. This particular song shows Deepika Padukone in a bold yet glamorous avatar and people have started objecting to it so much that they want to ban the movie!

The stars of the movie weren’t talking about it but finally, Shah Rukh Khan has broken the silence around the “Boycotting Pathaan” campaign.

King Khan arrived to attend KIFF – Kolkata International Film Festival and came on stage. When he got the opportunity, Shah Rukh Khan said that the current time’s narrative is determined by social media nowadays. Although many people believe that social media can affect the cinematic universe negatively, the actor believes that it has a superior role to play right now. He said that the driving factor for social media sometimes is the narrow-minded opinion of people and it limits human nature. Furthering adding to his statement, the King of Bollywood said that he read somewhere about negative news playing a significant role in increasing the consumption of social media and commercial value as well. This makes the platform destructive and isolating.

Talking about coming back to the cinema after a long break, Shah Rukh said that he couldn’t meet the world for some time but slowly the world is turning back to normal. Everyone is happy and he is the happiest among all. Adding to that, he also said that regardless of what everyone is doing, positive people are alive today.

All these comments were made news days after Narottam Mishra, home minister of Madhya Pradesh and BJP member said that the song in Pathaan movie (Besharam Rang) showcases the corrupt mindset of today’s people and its release would be banned in the state. What refers to the contaminated mindset here is the fact that Deepika Padukone styled an orange bathing suit. According to the people protesting the song, the color resembles saffron (a sacred color for Hindus).

After the minister opposed this song, Boycott Pathaan became one of the top trends on Twitter. A large part of netizens started opposing the song and the movie altogether.

About Pathaan

This movie is set to arrive at theatres on 25th January next year and would be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu for the entire nation to sit and enjoy. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham in the lead roles and is directed by the talented Siddharth Anand. Its story is written by Anand and has Shridhar Raghavan for the screenplay.
