1. Muzhappilangad Drive-In Beach

Known as the Drive-in beach in Asia with the topmost shore length. The popular media BBC has also featured this beach in South India as one of the 6 best Drive-in beaches in the world. The beach is also swimming-friendly.

Hence tourists who are fond of swimming in the bliss of beaches usually flock to this place on the coastline of Kannur. The beach is also well maintained by the authorities and less littered by tourists.

So, this is one of the cleanliest beaches on the Kerala coast. As the name of the beach says it loud, you can certainly experience the best beach driving experience in the location. 

2. Rajarajeshwara Temple

It is the temple that worships the Hindu god, Lord Shiva. The temple has also been listed among the 108 ancient Shiva temples in the state of Kerala. The temple has restricted the entry of female devotees by allotting worship time for them only after 8 pm.

It is believed that lord Shiva who will be in the company of goddess Parvati during this hour of the day is more probable to grant blessings and satisfy the wishes of the female devotees at this time. The shrine is built in the shape of a rectangle with copper roof sheets.

3. Palakkayam Thattu

Tourists are often attracted by the coastal beauty of the city but this is the other side of Kannur with the stunning hill station vibes. Palakkayam Thattu is kind of an offbeat location on the tourist map of Kannur.

But it is certainly worth a visit if you love a soothing kiss of nature on your Kannur vacation. Lush greens, the serenity of the blue skies, and proud rocky boulders add to the majestic beauty of Palakkayam Thattu.

4. Payyambalam Beach

Searching for that perfect picnic spot in Kannur? Payyambalam Beach is your place. This is a typical urban beach ideal to spend a relaxed evening with friends and family. Kannur Beach is a group of five beaches and Payyambalam Beach is one among them.

Government-facilitated recreational activities are also provided on the beach. A visit to the lighthouse is one of the best things to do if you plan to visit the destination. Family tourists can also find their children enjoying the playful vibes in the children’s park nearby.

5. Peralassery Sri Subramanya Temple

A crowded Hindu pilgrim destination in Kannur city. The temple worships lord Subramanya as their main deity. Experts mark the origin of the temple as the Thretha Yuga period. The Peralassery Subramanya Temple is also famous for worshipping snakes.

Also offering eggs for the snake deities is one of the major customs that has been practiced in the temple. Kodiyettam conducted annually is the major festive season of the temple. The temple pond with amazing architecture is also an Instagrammable location. 

6. Madayipara

This is a natural formation of the laterite plateau in Kannur. The surroundings of the location give transitional colorful vibes according to the changing seasons. The plateau is spread over a vast area of 700 acres.

The location is also historically significant with the Madayi Fort standing high on its heart. The constructor of the fort is believed to be the Vallabha king belonging to the Kolothu dynasty. The Jew pond seen here indicates the presence of ancient Jew settlers in the place. 

7. Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple

Another Hindu pilgrim spot with lord Shiva as the main deity. The Kottiyoor Mahadeva Temple is located on the hilly side of Kannur City. Two temple complexes facing each other names, Akkare Kottiyoor and Ikkare Kottiyoor with the river Bavali flowing in between.

Vaishakhamahotsavam is the major festival of the temple, conducted annually. 

8. Dharmadam Beach

A beach set in the rustic island vibes of Dharmadam. This is a relaxing hang-out spot complemented by the vibrance of the golden shore.

Visit the beach during low tides to have a wading walk through the island. It is also a habitat of medicinal herbs considered rare. 

9. Kavvayi Island

It is the largest island in the backwaters of North Kerala. The Kavvayi island had also been used as a mini port during the colonial period. But later British officials imposed a ban on the port during the 17th century.
