Dolu Lake

Dolu Lake is a picturesque, freshwater lake located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. Located 1650 meters above sea level, the lake is spread across a vast area of 12 hectares and a depth of nearly 5 meters. This is one of the best places to visit in Silchar

Khaspur

If you are quite keen on exploring historical remains, then Khaspur, the medieval capital of the Cachar Kings is one such place. The ruins of ancient forts and temples are one major attraction in Khaspur.

Gandhibag Park

Dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhibag Park will no doubt entice you with its lush greenery. In the first month of every year, the famous Gandhi Mela is conducted here where you can buy handmade goods and woven textiles.

The other major attraction is the Martyr’s Tomb located in the southwestern corner of the park, built in memory of 11 people who were killed in a police attack on February 21, 1961.

Maniharan Tunnel, Silchar

Located 5 Km from Bhuvan Hill, the Maniharan tunnel has found a mention in the epic Mahabharata. According to beliefs, Lord Krishna had used this tunnel.

The holy Tribeni river that flows below the tunnel and a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna located in the vicinity make it one of the must-visit places in Silchar.

Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd.

Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd., located in the city of Silchar is one of Asia’s largest paper mills. A spot frequented by tourists, you can take a tour of the factory and see how pulp is processed into paper.

Situated on the banks of the Barak River, Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd lies in a place where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of beautiful scenery.

Situated in the Chachar district of Assam, Salganga is a village famous for its lush green environment and natural beauty.

An ancient Vishnu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu that is located on the way to the airport at Kumbhirgram is another major tourist attraction. 

Badarpur Fort

The stunning Badarpur Fort, which dates back to the Mughal era, is situated in Assam’s Karimganj district. The fort lies along the banks of River Barak and here you can explore the magnificent beauty of Mughal architecture.

Maibong  

The former capital of the Kachari dynasty, Maibong is famous for its fantastic natural beauty. Also ruled by the Dimacha dynasty in the medieval era, Maibong is blessed with an abundance of beautiful green hillocks. The Ek Patthar Ghar, an ancient temple that has a history that dates back to the 12th century is another renowned place in Maibong.

How To Reach Silchar

If you are planning to travel by air, the nearest airport is the Kumbhirgram airport in Silchar. which is just 22 Km away from the town. For those who enjoy a train journey, the nearest railhead is the Silchar railway station located at Tarapur.

The major trains operating from the place are Cachar Express, Barak Valley Express, and Jiribam Fast Pass. Last, but not the least, if you prefer bus travel, there are both normal and luxury buses run by the ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation).

Best Time To Visit Silchar

With a pleasant climate around the year, you can visit Salchar anytime. However, if you want to experience the local festivals and culture, the ideal time to visit is during October or April.  In October, during the time of Navaratri, Goddess Durga is worshipped for 9 days. During mid-April, the festival of Bihu is celebrated when the entire crowd revels in festivities.
