Snowfall & Traffic Stranded 100 Vehicles At The Atal Tunnel!

The combination of bad weather and an immense number of tourists is always a bad one, especially for the hills. Every year as the winter approaches, the roads of Himachal Pradesh face huge traffic! This year is no different as areas around the Atal Tunnel could see approximately 100 vehicles jammed due to increasing traffic and snowfall.
More than 1000 tourists were stuck in this traffic incoming from both the north and south portals. This was also because the road was slippery and there was immense danger ahead. People on vacation were crossing the Atal Tunnel to see snowfall. But once the snow began collecting on the surface of the road, all the vehicles began to skid and the drivers couldn鈥檛 drive during the late evening for the sake of safety.
A lot of people, especially the local taxi drivers of the region were successful in navigating through the steep curves that were present between the Atal tunnel and Dhundi Nullah. While several vehicles were stuck, a few skids jammed the road.
Now the administration has stopped any traffic present ahead of the tunnel, the present traffic was already there and nothing could happen. The police force of Lahaul and Spiti began directing the vehicles to the tunnel鈥檚 south portal due to traffic congestion. There the police force was trying to direct all the vehicles one by one so that there is no collision or accident.

The SP of Lahaul-Spiti Manav Verma informed around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday that approximately 100 vehicles are stranded at the Atal tunnel鈥檚 north portal because of congestion and snowfall. So, every vehicle is now directed toward the south portal. The safety and movement of traffic are being monitored by SHO Keylong. Not only this but the tourists were also informed about the way of driving through the snow.
At around 9 p.m., around 250 vehicles were jammed from the tunnel to Dhundi Nullah. This was informed by Surender Thakur, the SDM of Manali.
There were around 40 four-wheelers that were directed from Manali to the tunnel for assistance. Manali鈥檚 tehsildar and DSP were continuously monitoring the situation there and all the cars and buses would be evacuated from the place in some time.
The area was continuously snowing and they were to be evacuated by midnight.
For quite some time now, the Atal tunnel is turned into the best tourist spot in Manali. The tunnel is located at a height of 10,000 ft. and tourists visit this place every year. People can enjoy snowfall or settled snowflakes in this region easily.
Although Atal Tunnel is one of the safest and most high-end tunnels throughout the country, the road leading to it turns dangerous after just an inch of snowfall. Dhundi Nullah to Atal tunnel is a steep region with around a 3km area covered in snow. The location is lovely but a little risky. Therefore, it is best to plan carefully!
